Music is my second language

When I play the saxophone, business cases are the last thing on my mind. It is all about the music, playing together and the special energy that grows between musicians and an audience. When that happens, I surrender completely to the music. People have told me it is almost as if I disappear into another world when I play.

Music has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. And I have no intention of stopping.

Where it all began

From clarinet to saxophone

I started out on clarinet, but during my high-school years I found the saxophone. It simply attracted a little more attention from the audience – and I fell in love with its sound and possibilities.

One unforgettable moment came in 1992, when I performed with the official house band at an FDF national jamboree in front of 24,000 people. It stayed with me. I knew music would remain part of my life – for my own enjoyment and for those listening.

On stage

Big bands, small stages and everything in between

I have played in big bands including Tuxedo Swing Band, King Size, Danish Radio's amateur big band and Big Apple Big Band – as well as various other groups and tribute projects over the years.

That has taken me from swing and pop to rock, and from large ensembles to more intimate shows where the saxophone takes centre stage.

Pink Floyd

Any Colour You Like

These days, Any Colour You Like, our Pink Floyd tribute band, is an important part of my musical life. I love the detail, atmosphere and rich soundscape we try to recreate on stage.

This is probably where my inner music nerd really comes into his own – whether it is a saxophone phrase, a keyboard sound or precisely the right transition between two songs.

Different ways to make music

There is more than one way to play a saxophone

I also perform solo – sometimes with fellow musicians, sometimes with backing tracks. It gives me the freedom to explore great melodies and leave room for improvisation. What ties it all together is the joy of sharing music with an audience.

My recordings

Seven songs – a little musical story

I have also recorded a collection of songs that can be heard as a journey through different emotions. It begins on a dreamlike note with Nature Boy, moves through Rosanna and the question of words versus actions in Det er ikke det, du siger.

From there, While My Guitar Gently Weeps and Ain’t No Sunshine make room for reflection and longing. But the story does not have to end there. With Pick Up the Pieces we pick up the pieces – and with Jubel joy and life have the final word.

That is one way of hearing the sequence. Above all, these are songs I love to play.
